Aji Verde Chilli Seeds (PI 290983)(c.baccatum)
Another authentic Peruvian Aji type, from the northern costal areas, mainly in Lambayeque and Piura. These grow to around 180 cm and will require staking. The fruits are heavy and leave the plant liable to damage. Fruits ripen from green to an orange/red colour. Fruits are large at around 10 x 3.5 cm. Flowers have the distinctive white and green/yellow markings. Great for traditional peruvian cooking. They are often consumed while green, or used to make salsa. A very productive plant. The heat is reasonably low to medium, at around 10,000-40,000 SHU, and can vary. A nice fruity flavour.
The PI number, simply refers to the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) Plant Index number under which the variety is listed.
